Element: Fire

fire

The four elements are important in spell work, but they also organize aspects of astrology and tarot cards. Colors, smells, textures, and even food are associated with the elements. Today I’m going to turn south to talk about the element of fire.

The southern compass point is the next stop on the clockwise (deosil) casting of a circle. Red is the color of fire, and fire aids and supports the qualities of action, vitality and passion. The magical tool most linked with fire is the wand (which can take many forms, Harry Potter notwithstanding). Like, air, fire has a masculine or yang energy. Aries, Leo and Sagittarius are fire signs in the zodiac.

Fire is associated with the qualities of action, assertion, individuality, and self direction. It is stimulating, outer-oriented, energetic, as well as hot and dry (think sunshine, flames, and the like).

Naturally a very popular type of fire magic is candle magic. Purifying and charging crystals and other stones, as well as amulets and talismans by placing them in direct sunlight for a give time is also fire magic.

Some other things that fall under the purview of fire: sports cars, physical combat, spicy food, rock music, vigorous sports, and cacti. Fire magic is useful to break up stagnation, add energy to a stalled endeavor, stimulate passion, or to start a new business

Next up will be the element associated with the west: water.
