Do You Believe in Magic?

1240770_sfondo_astratto_colorato_1Do you believe in magic?
In a young girl’s heart
How the music can free her
whenever it starts
And it’s magic…

Sorry. No.

That’s not the kind of magic I mean. I’m not talking about the kind where a witch twitches her nose and she’s suddenly standing in front of Notre Dame (though that would be nice, wouldn’t it?) or the kind they teach at Hogwarts, either.

I’m talking about the act of making something that didn’t exist before. Of influencing our own reality, of creating destiny rather than delivering ourselves to fate. Magic is about intention and the power that comes from belief. Some people have even likened it to quantum physics, where the expectations of the scientist affect the outcome of her experiment.

Everyone has magic in them.

Everyone.

Some people have honed that innate ability into a finely polished skill by learning to focus their intention more and more effectively. That is rightly called power, though I prefer to think of it as tapping into our own resources.

Yes, there are rituals and spells and supplies, ways to direct energy and make manifest possibility and potential, but they are simply tools – tools I’m learning a lot more about.

But the magic? That’s in us, and all around us. The tools just help us get at it.
